Some pharmacological actions of choline 2:6-xylyl ether bromide
Abstract:
The following pharmacological properties of choline 2:6-xylyl ether bromide are described: (1) nicotine-like stimulant action on the arterial blood pressure, on the nictitating membrane, and on the soleus and gastrocnemius muscles of cats; (2) muscarine-like action on the arterial blood pressure of cats, and on the isolated guinea-pig ileum; (3) antihistaminic and antimuscarinic actions on the isolated guinea-pig ileum; (4) antisympathomimetic action on the arterial blood pressure of cats; and (5) neuromuscular blocking action on skeletal muscle of cats.

Indirect-Acting Cholinergic Agonists: Mechanism of Action
Reversible inhibitors like edrophonium bind to a specific part of the enzyme called the anionic catalytic site. They form noncovalent bonds, which means they are not strongly attached to the enzyme. This creates a temporary and less stable enzyme–inhibitor complex, leading to...

At the neuromuscular junction, these agents work by inhibiting the breakdown of acetylcholine, allowing it to remain bound to the receptor and bind to nearby receptors. This process leads to repetitive firing of the endplate, causing muscle...
