Background:

  • A 22-year-old Chilean male presented with severe necrotic lesions on the toes of his right foot and the heel of his left foot.
  • The patient reported a 7-month travel history to the Amazon region of Brazil, a known endemic area.

  • Surgical intervention was performed to address the necrotic lesions.
  • Eggs of Tunga penetrans were identified and removed from the affected areas, confirming the diagnosis of tungiasis.

  • This case highlights the importance of recognizing tungiasis in travelers returning from endemic areas.
  • Prompt diagnosis and surgical debridement are crucial for preventing secondary infections and complications associated with Tunga penetrans infestation.
