Abstract:
Atypical occurrence of gout (in a 37-year-old Negro woman and in an 11-year-old girl) and atypical manifestations (involvement of both hands and both feet, and of shoulders, elbows, wrists or ankles) are reported in a study of five cases. Because specific and effective therapy for gout is available, and because the diagnosis, once suspected, is readily confirmed by estimation of plasma uric acid content and by therapeutic trial, it becomes more urgent to recognize that gout is a fequently overlooked diagnosis.
