Background:

Observation:

  • Two patients with choroidal hemangiomas presented with secondary choroidal neovascularization.
  • One patient with Sturge-Weber syndrome and a diffuse choroidal hemangioma developed CNV after laser treatment for a serous macular detachment.
  • A second patient with a circumscribed choroidal hemangioma developed spontaneous CNV 12 years post-diagnosis.

Findings:

  • Choroidal neovascularization can develop in patients with choroidal hemangiomas, irrespective of treatment.
  • CNV may occur in treated and untreated areas of choroidal hemangiomas.
  • The development of CNV is a significant risk factor for visual impairment in these cases.
