Heparin cofactor II deficiency in the elderly: comparison with antithrombin III

Heparin cofactor II (HC II) levels decline with age in the elderly, more so than antithrombin III (AT III). Malnutrition further reduces HC II, potentially increasing thrombosis risk in older adults.
