Background:

Segmental dilatation of the colon is a rare congenital anomaly.
It typically affects older children and can present symptoms similar to Hirschsprung's disease.

A neonate diagnosed with Down's syndrome and intestinal malrotation presented with symptoms of segmental dilatation of the colon.
This rare condition in a neonate is unusual, as it typically affects older children.

Findings:

The neonate with Down's syndrome and malrotation was successfully treated with segmental resection of the affected colon.
Surgical intervention led to a complete cure for the condition.

Implications:

This case highlights that segmental dilatation of the colon can occur in neonates, even those with chromosomal abnormalities like Down's syndrome.
Early diagnosis and surgical management, such as segmental resection, are effective treatments for this rare condition in neonates.
