Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Biomedical Engineering
  • Electrophysiology

Context:

  • Systemic unipolar pacemaker control via chest wall stimulation.
  • Analysis of over 5000 clinical control cases.
  • Importance of accurate sensing function for electrocardiographic interpretation.

Purpose:

  • To classify abnormal pacemaker sensing functions.
  • To differentiate between oversensing and undersensing phenomena.
  • To enhance the understanding of pacemaker interference.

Summary:

  • Oversensing is consistently identified as a primary, evident, or concealed phenomenon.
  • Undersensing is characterized as a primary or secondary event.
  • Undersensing is frequently triggered by concealed oversensing during the pacemaker's refractory period.
