A hypertensive woman experienced ataxic hemiparesis and homonymous hemianopia. Imaging revealed multiple posterior cerebral artery lesions and cerebellar hemisphere abnormalities, indicating a stroke.

Infections Revealing Complement Deficiency in Adults: A French Nationwide Study Enrolling 41 Patients.

Background:

  • Posterior cerebral artery (PCA) territory infarcts can cause significant neurological deficits.
  • Hypertension is a major risk factor for cerebrovascular events.

Observation:

  • A 60-year-old hypertensive female presented with acute onset of ataxic hemiparesis and homonymous hemianopia.
  • Neurological examination revealed motor and visual field deficits.

Findings:

  • Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrated multiple lesions within the PCA distribution and the left cerebellar hemisphere.
  • Computed tomography (CT) identified a right thalamic and occipital lobe hypodensity, consistent with ischemic changes.

Implications:

  • These findings suggest a stroke affecting the posterior circulation.
  • Prompt diagnosis and management are crucial for patients with PCA territory strokes.
