Background:

  • Arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) are abnormal tangles of blood vessels.
  • Extra cranial AVMs can present with diverse and sometimes subtle symptoms.

Observation:

  • Two cases of extra cranial arteriovenous malformations presenting as pulsatile tinnitus are described.
  • Initial diagnosis was based on clinical examination.

Findings:

  • Angiography confirmed the presence and extent of the AVMs.
  • Feeding vessels were identified in both cases.
  • Surgical excision provided symptomatic relief in one patient.

Implications:

  • Pulsatile tinnitus may be a presenting symptom of extra cranial AVMs.
  • Clinical examination combined with angiography is crucial for diagnosis.
