Background:

Intraligamentary anesthesia, referred to as transligamentary anesthesia (TLA), represents a recent advancement in dental pain control.

To consolidate and review the comprehensive information available on transligamentary anesthesia in dental literature.
To provide a detailed overview of TLA, including its history, application, and outcomes.

Main Methods:

A systematic review of current and historical dental literature concerning transligamentary anesthesia.
Analysis of technical aspects, success rates, onset, duration, and adverse reactions associated with TLA.

Main Results:

TLA offers a novel approach to pain blockage in dentistry.
The review covers historical background, indications, technical procedures, anesthetic solutions, success rates, onset and duration, animal studies, advantages, disadvantages, adverse reactions, limitations, and patient acceptance.
