INTRAVASCULAR ENDOTHELIOMA (ENDOTHELIOMA IN SITU, SYSTEMIC ENDOTHELIOMATOSIS).

H HABER, J N HARRIS-JONES, A L WELLS

    Journal of Clinical Pathology
    |November 1, 1964

    Summary

Intravascular endothelioma, a rare vascular tumor, presented as painless skin swellings in a 48-year-old woman. Histological analysis suggests it may be analogous to pre-invasive cancerous states.

    Area of Science:

    • Dermatology
    • Oncology
    • Pathology

    Background:

    • Intravascular endothelioma is a rare vascular neoplasm.
    • Limited case reports exist, necessitating further clinical and histological characterization.

    Purpose of the Study:

    • To present a case of intravascular endothelioma in a 48-year-old female.
    • To describe the clinical and histological features of this rare condition.
    • To compare the findings with previously reported cases and discuss potential analogies.

    Main Methods:

    • Clinical case presentation and detailed description of symptoms.
    • Histopathological examination of skin biopsies.
    • Comparative analysis with existing literature on intravascular endothelioma.

    Main Results:

    • The patient presented with red, painless swellings on the lower limbs.
    • Histological findings from skin biopsies were analyzed.
    • The current case was compared to two previously documented instances of the condition.

    Conclusions:

    • The described case expands the understanding of intravascular endothelioma's clinical presentation.
    • Histological features suggest a potential link to pre-invasive carcinomatous states.
    • Further research is warranted to elucidate the nature and progression of this rare vascular tumor.
