Domestic violence, or family violence, a concept that encompasses child abuse, partner abuse, and elder abuse, is being understood more and more as a trauma to the nation's families. Very often it's hospitals, particularly hospital emergency departments, that are the first community organization that the abused person sees for examination or treatment.
