Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate potential differences in I/R injury sensitivity among skeletal muscle fiber types.
  • To determine if skeletal muscle fiber type predicts vulnerability to I/R injury.

Main Methods:

  • Isolated rat hindlimb preparation perfused with albumin-enriched Krebs buffer.
  • Induction of 120 minutes of ischemia followed by 60 minutes of reperfusion.
  • Assessment of skeletal muscle injury, microvascular injury, and tissue water content.
