Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the etiology of intraoral vesicles that developed in dental students after alginate impressions.

Main Methods:

  • Clinical observation of lesions, histopathological examination of one lesion, patch testing for allergy, and microbial culturing of lesions and alginate powder.
  • Histopathology suggested contact allergy, but patch tests were negative.

  • 47 out of 227 dental students developed intraoral vesicles, typically solitary, clear, and located on the vermilion border of the lips.
