[The reproducibility of oral exfoliative-cytological findings]

In periodontology, exfoliative-cytological examinations are used to support the diagnosis, to assess the effectiveness of periodontal-therapeutical procedures and in basic research. It was tried to demonstrate the reproducibility of exfoliative-cytological findings by repeated counting of 114 gingival smears by two examiners (blind trial). The numerical values obtained for the different kinds of cells were in good agreement, which was confirmed with the aid of mathematical statistics.
