Four-year Survival of Endodontically Treated Premolars Restored with Fiber Posts.

Journal of dental research·2014

Area of Science:

  • Endodontics
  • Dental Materials Science

Background:

  • Fiber posts are widely used in endodontic restorations.
  • Efficient removal of fiber posts is crucial for retreatment.
  • Various post types and removal techniques exist, impacting procedure time.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the time required for removing three types of fiber posts.
  • To evaluate the efficiency of two different bur kits for fiber post retrieval.

Main Methods:

  • Sixty endodontically treated anterior teeth were prepared with a 10 mm post space.
  • Three types of fiber posts (Conic, FRC Poster, Composipost) were cemented.
  • Posts were removed using either a specialized RTD kit or a diamond/Largo bur combination.

Main Results:

  • Composipost carbon fiber posts demonstrated significantly faster removal times (p < 0.05).
  • The diamond and Largo bur combination was significantly faster than the specialized kit (p < 0.05).
  • No significant interaction was found between post type and bur kit efficiency.

Conclusions:

  • Composipost carbon fiber posts offer a time advantage for removal.
  • A combination of diamond and Largo burs is a more time-efficient method for fiber post removal compared to the tested specialized kit.
