Purpose of the Study:
- To characterize the role of IL-11 in human B cell differentiation in vitro.
- To investigate the interaction of IL-11 with T cells and monocytes in B cell differentiation.
Main Methods:
- Purified human B cells were cultured with various stimuli including Staphylococcus Cowan I, pokeweed mitogen (PWM), T cells (CD4+/45RA- and CD4+/45RA+), monocytes, IL-6, and IL-11.
- DNA synthesis and immunoglobulin (IgG and IgM) secretion were measured.
- IL-6 mRNA expression was assessed in T cells and monocytes.
Main Results:
- IL-11 alone or with Staphylococcus Cowan I did not significantly increase B cell DNA synthesis or Ig secretion.
