Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the efficacy of oxygenated luminal perfusion with an amino acid (AA)-based solution in preserving the small bowel mucosal barrier.
  • To assess the impact of different perfusion durations on tissue energetics and integrity.

Main Methods:

  • Rat small bowels were flushed and preserved using modified University of Wisconsin solution.
  • Four groups were established: control (no perfusion), AA solution flush, 1-hour AA perfusion, and continuous AA perfusion.

    • Continuous perfusion may induce injury due to oxidative and mechanical stress, making shorter perfusion durations more beneficial.
