  • Cardiology
  • Microbiology

Background:

  • Infective endocarditis is a serious infection of the heart's inner lining.
  • Salmonella species are an uncommon etiology for infective endocarditis.

Observation:

  • A patient presented with echocardiographically confirmed aortic valve disease and endocarditis.
  • Blood and urine cultures isolated Salmonella typhi.

Findings:

  • The patient received a four-week antibiotic regimen: two weeks of ceftriaxone and amikacin, followed by two weeks of ceftriaxone alone.
  • The treatment resulted in a complete recovery for the patient.

Implications:

  • This case highlights the importance of considering Salmonella typhi in the differential diagnosis of infective endocarditis.
