N-terminal pro-brain natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) effectively predicts mortality risk in advanced heart failure patients awaiting cardiac transplantation. This biomarker outperforms traditional markers like left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) and peak oxygen uptake (VO2).
