Summary

Mental imagery of exercise, like rowing, can alter cardiorespiratory function. Previous rowing experience is not essential for these physiological changes to occur, as seen across different participant groups.

  • To investigate if previous rowing experience is a prerequisite for cardiorespiratory changes during mental imagery of rowing.

  • Recorded cardiorespiratory variables (ventilation, heart rate) in four groups: competitive rowers, non-rower athletes, students, and seniors.
