Summary

Lilly is developing fasidotril, a prodrug for hypertension and congestive heart failure (CHF). Phase II trials were underway in the US and Europe by July 2003.

Area of Science:

Background:

  • Fasidotril is a diester prodrug.
  • Its active metabolite is fasidotrilat.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To investigate the potential of fasidotril for treating hypertension.
  • To investigate the potential of fasidotril for treating congestive heart failure (CHF).

Main Methods:

  • Phase II clinical trials were initiated.
  • Trials commenced in the late 1990s.

Main Results:

  • Trials were ongoing as of July 2003.

Conclusions:

  • Fasidotril development for hypertension and CHF was in Phase II trials.
