Summary

Lilly is developing fasidotril, a prodrug for hypertension and congestive heart failure (CHF). Phase II trials were underway in the US and Europe by July 2003.

Background:

Fasidotril is a diester prodrug.
Its active metabolite is fasidotrilat.

Purpose of the Study:

To investigate the potential of fasidotril for treating hypertension.
To investigate the potential of fasidotril for treating congestive heart failure (CHF).

Main Methods:

Phase II clinical trials were initiated.
Trials commenced in the late 1990s.

Main Results:

Trials were ongoing as of July 2003.

Conclusions:

Fasidotril development for hypertension and CHF was in Phase II trials.
