Area of Science:

  • Ophthalmology
  • Infectious Diseases
  • Parasitology

Background:

  • Ocular toxoplasmosis (OT) is a significant cause of vision impairment.
  • This parasitic infection can be progressive and recurrent, posing a threat to visual function.

Observation:

  • Two cases of recurrent ocular toxoplasmosis in immunocompetent individuals were analyzed.
  • These patients experienced repeated episodes of the disease.

Findings:

  • Prophylactic treatment was administered to the patients.
  • The prophylaxis successfully prevented further recurrences of ocular toxoplasmosis.

Implications:

  • Prophylaxis is a viable strategy for managing recurrent ocular toxoplasmosis in immunocompetent hosts.
