Area of Science:

  • Urology
  • Oncology
  • Pathology

Background:

  • Leiomyosarcoma is a rare mesenchymal tumor that can arise in the urinary bladder.
  • Understanding its clinical presentation and behavior is crucial for patient management.

Observation:

  • Three cases of urinary bladder leiomyosarcoma were analyzed.
  • One patient also presented with urothelial carcinoma in situ.
  • Clinical presentation and surgical findings were similar in two female patients.

Findings:

  • The male patient's leiomyosarcoma appeared more aggressive compared to the female patients.
  • Co-occurrence of leiomyosarcoma and urothelial carcinoma in situ was noted in one case.

Implications:

  • These findings highlight potential sex-related differences in urinary bladder leiomyosarcoma presentation and progression.
  • Further research is warranted to elucidate the underlying mechanisms and optimize treatment strategies for this rare malignancy.
