Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare needle visualization and diagnostic yield of treated vs. untreated needles in sonographically guided biopsies.
  • Evaluate the performance of Teflon-coated, etched tip, and echogenic polymer-coated needles.
  • Determine the optimal needle type for improved biopsy outcomes.

  • A randomized prospective study involving 61 patients undergoing thyroid and liver biopsies.
  • Four types of 22-gauge needles were used: Teflon coated, etched tip, echogenic polymer coated, and untreated.

    • The lack of significant difference in yield may be attributed to the study's sample size.
