Abstract:
The history of the Johns Hopkins Hospital unit in the American Expeditionary Forces in France in World War I is important as it tells the story of two Baltimore dentists, one of whom became the first American army dentist to practice on French soil in 1917, and the other one of the first American oral surgeons to practice on a maxillofacial trauma team with a physician partner. Unfortunately, after the war the dental profession lost a wonderful opportunity to take advantage of the inroads it had made into the plastic field during the Great War.
