Pediatric oncology nurses experience stress and use coping strategies effectively, but the revised stress-response sequence (SRS) model did not predict work consequences. A new model is proposed for understanding nurse stress and outcomes.

  • A new Role-Related Meaning Scale was developed and validated (Cronbach's alpha = .83).

  • Nurses reported moderate to high stress, frequent and effective coping, high job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and group cohesion, with low intent to leave.
