Subacute left ventricular free wall rupture after myocardial infarction can be successfully treated with emergency surgery. This case series discusses presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of this rare complication.

Area of Science:

  • Cardiology
  • Cardiac Surgery
  • Medical Case Reports

Background:

  • Left ventricular free wall rupture (LVFWR) is a rare but catastrophic complication following myocardial infarction (MI).
  • Subacute presentations of LVFWR are less common than acute forms, posing diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.

Observation:

  • Four cases of subacute LVFWR post-MI are presented.
  • Patients presented with varied clinical symptoms requiring prompt diagnosis.

Findings:

  • Successful emergency surgical intervention was achieved in all four cases.
  • Surgical repair of LVFWR offers a viable treatment option for selected patients.

Implications:

  • Early diagnosis and aggressive surgical management are crucial for improving outcomes in subacute LVFWR.

Related Experiment Videos

  • This series highlights the importance of considering LVFWR in patients with refractory post-MI symptoms.
