Abstract:
Oedema is the body's response to tissue damage due to a range of causes, from immobility to heart failure. The second part in our series looks at why it occurs, outlines the two main types of oedema and describes the cellular-level mechanisms that lead to its formation, including changes in hydrostatic pressure, the disruption of nutrient delivery and electrolyte disturbance.
