Summary

Measuring adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH) during an insulin tolerance test (ITT) does not improve evaluation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis. Peak ACTH levels show high variability and are not a reliable indicator of HPA axis function.
