Background:

- This study investigates the frequency of autoimmune disorders in patients with various hematopoietic diseases receiving IFN-alpha treatment.
Observation:
- Thirty-three patients with hematopoietic diseases (CML, ET, multiple myeloma, HES) were assessed for autoimmune markers.
- Autoantibodies (ANA, dsDNA, RAPA), thyroid function, and coagulation were evaluated in patients treated with natural or recombinant IFN-alpha.

- Ten patients had low free T3 and/or free T4 levels without clinical symptoms.
- Circulating anticoagulant antibodies were found in 3/23 CML patients treated with recombinant IFN-alpha 2b, but not with natural IFN-alpha.
