Summary

Prolonged optokinetic stimulation (OK) alone can induce an after-rotation effect in blindfolded individuals stepping in place. This phenomenon, termed optokinetically induced podokinetic after-rotation (oPKAR), demonstrates novel neural interactions and adaptive plasticity.

    • This suggests OK charges a neural storage element for podomotor activity with a long time constant.
    • The findings highlight novel neural interactions and adaptive plasticity, potentially relevant for vestibular and parietal lobe disorders.
