Area of Science:

  • Plastic Surgery
  • Aesthetic Surgery
  • Breast Surgery

Background:

  • Patients often seek simultaneous nipple-areolar reduction and breast augmentation.
  • Existing techniques may have limitations in scar visibility or nipple sensation.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To describe a novel surgical technique for combined nipple-areolar reduction and breast augmentation.
  • To evaluate the safety, practicality, and sensory outcomes of this technique.

Main Methods:

  • A nipple base incision is utilized for implant placement.
  • Nipple reduction involves removing a skin ring at the nipple base.
  • Areolar reduction is achieved by excising a central donut-shaped area of skin.
  • Saline implants are placed utilizing the elasticity of the areolar skin.

Main Results:

  • The technique allows for simultaneous breast augmentation and nipple-areolar reduction.
  • Scars are reported to be well-concealed post-operatively.
  • Results from 15 patients indicate the procedure is safe and practical.
  • No increased risk of nipple sensory changes was observed.

Conclusions:

  • This nipple base incision technique offers a viable solution for combined breast augmentation and nipple-areolar reduction.
  • The procedure is safe, practical, and maintains nipple sensation.
  • It provides good aesthetic results with minimal scarring.
