Summary

Lyme carditis can cause sinus node dysfunction, leading to syncope. Prompt antibiotic treatment resolved the condition in a patient, avoiding the need for a pacemaker.

Background:

Lyme carditis commonly presents with atrioventricular (AV) nodal conduction disturbances.
Sinus node dysfunction is a less frequent manifestation of Lyme carditis.

Observation:

A 66-year-old female presented with syncope following tick bites.
Electrocardiogram (ECG) monitoring showed significant sinus arrest (up to 8 seconds).

Findings:

The patient's sinus node dysfunction resolved rapidly after initiating antibiotic therapy for Lyme carditis.
No further syncopal episodes occurred, and pacemaker implantation was avoided.

Implications:

This case highlights Lyme carditis as a potential cause of symptomatic sinus node dysfunction.
Early diagnosis and antibiotic treatment can effectively manage this cardiac manifestation of Lyme disease, preventing invasive procedures.
