High-resolution 8 Tesla gradient echo (GE) MRI effectively visualized a venous cavernoma, a vascular malformation, and its microvasculature. This advanced imaging surpassed routine 1.5 Tesla MRI in detecting the condition.

  • Significant signal loss (7.3 +/- 2.4 fold decrease) was observed in the cavernoma on 8 T GE images.
  • The cavernoma was not apparent on conventional 1.5 T T2-weighted FSE images.
