Summary

Programmed cell death (apoptosis) plays a role in bone formation. Apoptosis is more frequent during dynamic bone formation (DBF), suggesting it aids bone growth by clearing space in developing bone tissue.

Background:

  • Intramembranous ossification involves two distinct processes: static bone formation (SBF) and dynamic bone formation (DBF).
  • DBF is characterized by tissue invasion, unlike the non-invasive SBF.
