Preserving avulsed teeth for replantation.

Summary

Replanted avulsed teeth stored in an extra-oral tooth preserving system (EPTS) showed high success rates, even after prolonged dry times. This tooth preserving system significantly improves outcomes for replanted teeth.

Background:

Dental avulsion, or tooth avulsion, is a common dental emergency.
Prompt and appropriate management of avulsed teeth is crucial for successful replantation.
Extra-oral dry time significantly impacts the survival of the periodontal ligament cells.

Purpose of the Study:

To evaluate the efficacy of a prefabricated tooth preserving and protecting system (EPTS) for replanted avulsed teeth.
To determine the success rates of replantation following various extra-oral dry times when using the EPTS.

Main Methods:

A retrospective study was conducted on 34 replanted avulsed teeth.
Teeth were stored in a prefabricated EPTS before replantation.
Success was evaluated over follow-up periods ranging from 3 to 30 months.

Main Results:

91% of replanted teeth showed excellent or moderate success.
This success was observed even with extra-oral times of 120 minutes or more.
The follow-up period ranged from 3 to 30 months.

Conclusions:

The use of a prefabricated tooth preserving and protecting system (EPTS) significantly increases the success rate of replanted avulsed teeth.
EPTS provides a favorable environment for avulsed teeth, enhancing cell viability and promoting healing.
