Abstract:
The Nurse in Washington Internship (NIWI) is a four-day annual program sponsored by the National Federation of Specialty Nursing Organizations (NFSNO). Aside from presenting a dynamic educational experience, NIWI enables nurses to actively participate in the legislative process by spending a day on Capitol Hill. The 2000 NIWI focused on several issues of importance to nurses and nursing practice. This article discusses those issues.
