Summary

This study reports a rare case of elastofibroma, a benign fibroelastic tumor, presenting as multiple subcutaneous nodules in a 78-year-old man. The patient had 17 distinct lesions, the largest number ever documented in a single individual.

Background:

  • Elastofibroma is a rare fibroelastic tumor typically found between the scapula and chest wall in elderly individuals.
  • It infrequently presents in the skin or subcutaneous tissue, making it uncommon in dermatologic literature.

Observation:

  • A 78-year-old male presented with numerous subcutaneous nodules.
  • The patient had 15 nodules on the buttocks and upper extremities, plus bilateral subscapular nodules.
  • Histological examination confirmed all 17 lesions as elastofibromas.

Findings:

  • This case represents the largest number of distinct elastofibromas (17) reported in a single patient to date.
  • The findings expand the known clinical presentation of elastofibroma beyond the typical subscapular location.
