A novel double-stent technique successfully treated two ruptured vertebral artery aneurysms. This endovascular method offers a promising alternative for complex cases unsuitable for traditional treatments.

Background:

  • Distal vertebral artery aneurysms, especially small and wide-necked ruptured ones, pose significant treatment challenges.
  • Conventional endovascular techniques like coil embolization may be insufficient or too risky for these complex anatomies.

Observation:

  • Two cases of acutely ruptured, wide-necked distal vertebral artery aneurysms were presented.
  • These aneurysms were not amenable to standard coil embolization.

Findings:

  • A double-stent technique, involving placing one stent inside another, was employed for treatment.
  • Immediate post-procedure angiography showed reduced aneurysm filling.
  • Complete occlusion was observed at 7 days and confirmed at 6 months, indicating successful thrombosis.
