[Principles of optical oximetry in extracorporeal circulation systems]

The paper outlines the optical properties of blood as a random unhomogenous scattering and absorbing medium and presents the basic characteristics of single erythrocyte diffusers. It also shows how the above dependencies are used in particular oximeters. The first world's laser oximeter designed by the authors is described.
