Summary

Directly asking older adults about memory problems appears more clinically significant than using the Memory Complaint Questionnaire (MAC-Q). This finding is crucial for assessing subjective memory complaints (SMC) in community-dwelling elderly without cognitive risks.

Background:

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare the clinical significance of direct questioning versus a structured self-report questionnaire (MAC-Q) for assessing memory problems in healthy older adults.
  • To investigate the relationship between subjective memory complaints (SMC), MAC-Q scores, and objective memory performance (RAVLT).

Main Methods:

  • 71 healthy, community-dwelling older adults without cognitive risk factors were recruited.
  • Participants underwent direct questioning for SMC, completed the MAC-Q, and were administered the Rey Auditory Verbal Learning Test (RAVLT).
