Purpose of the Study:

  • To evaluate the diagnostic utility of various foveal threshold criteria for detecting diffuse visual field loss in glaucoma patients.
  • To assess the sensitivity, specificity, and predictive values of temporal contrast sensitivity, flicker-fusion frequency, and blue-on-yellow visual field testing.

Main Methods:

  • Eighty-two eyes of 82 glaucoma patients were analyzed using the Humphrey Field Analyzer (program 30-2).
  • Foveal threshold criteria, including temporal contrast sensitivity function, flicker-fusion frequency, and blue-on-yellow visual sensitivity, were evaluated.
  • Statistical analysis was performed to determine the significance of sensitivity loss and the predictive values of the tested criteria.

Conclusions:

  • Abnormal foveal temporal threshold criteria, particularly those related to high temporal frequencies and blue-on-yellow sensitivity, are highly indicative of diffuse visual field loss in glaucoma.
  • While these criteria have limitations in sensitivity, their high specificity and positive predictive value make them valuable adjuncts in glaucoma diagnosis and monitoring.
