Area of Science:

  • Natural Product Chemistry
  • Phytochemistry
  • Organic Chemistry

Background:

  • Sophora flavescens (Leguminosae) is a traditional medicinal plant.
  • Oleanane glycosides are a class of bioactive compounds found in plants.
  • Previous research has identified various compounds from Sophora flavescens.

Purpose of the Study:

  • To isolate and characterize new oleanane glycosides from Sophora flavescens.
  • To elucidate the chemical structures of these novel compounds.
  • To contribute to the understanding of the chemical constituents of Sophora flavescens.

Main Methods:

  • Extraction and isolation of compounds from Sophorae Radix (Sophora flavescens roots).
  • Structure elucidation using chemical reactions and spectral analyses (e.g., NMR, MS).

Related Experiment Videos

  • Identification of oleanane glycosides and their sapogenol.
  • Main Results:

    • Three new oleanane glycosides, sophoraflavosides II-IV (2-4), were isolated.
    • These compounds were identified as methyl ester forms, alongside sophoraflavoside I (1).
    • The sapogenol, oxytrogenin (5), was characterized as 3β,22β,24-trihydroxyolean-12-en-29-oic acid.

    Conclusions:

    • The study successfully identified and characterized three novel oleanane glycosides from Sophora flavescens.
    • The findings expand the known chemical diversity of Sophora flavescens.
    • These new compounds may hold potential for further pharmacological investigation.
