[Reticular activation by splanchnic afferents: its influence on visual projections at the level of the cerebral
Abstract:
In an previous work, we have shown a strong increase of visual evoked potentials of the medial lateral gyrus by splanchnic stimulation. This present study demonstrates that this effect is due to the activation of the substantia reticularis. Actually, we observed: 1) an increase of the reticular visual potential by splanchnic stimulus in convergent zone; 2) an increase of the visual evoked potential in the primary cortical area by stimulation of this reticular formation. These results show the existence of a functional pathway including the splanchnic nerve, the reticular formation and the visual cortex.
