[Conservative treatment of spinal injuries yesterday and today]

Since 60 years fractures of the spine are reduced by longitudinal traction and hyperlordosis and then immobilized in a plaster jacket followed by an intensive exercise programme. This type of treatment was originated by Davis, Watson-Johnes and Lorenz Böhler. Inspite of the increase of operative stabilizations this method of treatment is still valid.
