Abstract:
Techniques of achieving a docile lower urinary tract and continence mechanisms using bowel segments have improved unmeasurably over the last decade. The medium term complications are well documented. The long term problems of chronic infection are being addressed but it remains to be seen whether tumour formation occurs eventually in some patients and whether renal function is better preserved by a continent reconstruction rather than a surface diversion.
