Background:

  • Its pathogenesis involves T-cell mediated inflammation, with a focus on T-helper type 1 cytokines like interferon-gamma (IFN-γ).
  • Understanding cytokine profiles is crucial for diagnosing and managing alopecia areata, including its localized (LAA) and extensive forms (alopecia totalis/universalis - AT/AU).

Purpose of the Study:

  • To compare serum IFN-γ levels in patients with alopecia areata versus healthy controls.
  • To investigate differences in serum IFN-γ levels between localized alopecia areata (LAA) and extensive forms (AT/AU).

Main Methods:

  • Serum samples were collected from 40 patients with alopecia areata and 20 healthy controls.
