Accurate preoperative orthoptic examination is crucial for preventing postoperative binocular vision changes after refractive surgery. Special attention is needed for patients with a history of strabismus or refractive errors.

  • These included decompensated palsy, recurrent strabismus, worsened esotropia, diplopia, and reduced fusion/stereopsis.

Findings:

  • LASIK (laser in situ keratomileusis) precipitated or exacerbated binocular vision issues in susceptible patients.
  • Conditions like monovision, preexisting strabismus, anisometropia, and over/undercorrection increased risk.
