Background:

  • Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is a common procedure for gallstones.
  • Complications, though rare, require prompt recognition and management.

Observation:

  • A 64-year-old woman developed symptoms 10 days post-laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
  • Imaging revealed a large intrahepatic subcapsular hematoma.

Findings:

  • The hematoma was successfully treated with percutaneous drainage and intravenous antibiotics.
  • Complete resolution of the hematoma was observed within 4 months.

Implications:

  • This case highlights a rare but manageable complication of laparoscopic cholecystectomy.
  • Percutaneous drainage is an effective treatment for intrahepatic subcapsular hematomas.
